Can you hear me now?Maroons come back to beat Verizon 17-16
The Maroons won a close
one in come from behind fashion for the second time this season.The game started off rough for the guys in
dark red.Verizon batted around in
both of their first two innings racking up 15 runs.But the Maroons were putting up some runs
of their own to keep within striking distance. Heading into the last inning
the Maroons found themselves down 3 runs.
Verizon induced two
harmless fly balls before the Maroons could get anything going. Jim, John,
Weber, and Grego got the two-out rally started with consecutive hits to set
the table for Brett.He came through,
plating the tying and go ahead runs with a searing triple to left field.Chris added an insurance (and what turned
out to be the game winning) run to give the Maroons a two-run cushion heading
into the bottom of the inning.
That's when Jim Willey
took over. Verizon's lead off man hit a line drive in the gap in right-center
but Willey tracked it down, catching it in a full sprint.Three base hits in a row brought Verizon
within 1 run but again Willey came up with the big play.On the third hit, the lead runner made too
big of a turn off at second base and Jim fired a strike behind the runner for
the second out.Willey then squeezed a
pop fly from the next batter to end the game and give the Maroons their third
win of the season.
