For the second week in
a row the Maroons went into their game knowing that a win would leave them
alone in first place.And for the
second week in a row, they came up short, losing to Sparks Trucking, 16-13.
The Maroons seemed to
have turned a slow start around with the help the second official scoring
coup of the season. Sparks Trucking batted out of order in the bottom of the
second wiping 2 runs from the books.The Maroons squeaked out a couple of runs and the game was tied going
into what would be the decisive the bottom of the third.
After a couple hits and
a three run homer, the Maroons got two quick outs and a ground ball from ST's
lead-off hitter.Weber flipped the
ball to first for the sure out and the everyone headed off the field.Everyone except the baserunners and the
umpire, who saw the play the other way.ST took advantage of the break.The Maroons couldn't record the final out until ST had batted around
and took a 15 to 6 advantage.
The team's inconsistent night was
contrasted by the play of Gene and Rob.Gene was perfect a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate and had several hustle
plays forcing bad throws from ST fielders.Gene also had a clutch spur of the moment pitching performance
enabling the Maroons to remain competitive throughout the game.Rob was also 3 for 3 with a double and his
first career homerun, a bomb to straight away center field.
