Hillside wasn’t able
to put up much of a fight against the Maroons, losing their first round
playoff game, 19-3.The Maroons put
12 runs in the scorebook before Hillside even got to swing a bat.With the offense squared away, the
defense made sure that Hillside could never maintain a sustained attack.
Hillside, the
American League’s #4 seed, seemed to have trouble adapting to the National
League’s rules.With no outs and a
man on first, Hillside’s pitcher argued over a called strike two.Unfortunately for Hillside, he argued the
call from the batter’s box.The
batter turned his attention back in time to offer a weak swing at what would
have been strike three.Scott fielded
the ball and fired to second to get the lead runner.Hillside’s pitcher, obviously not used to
base running either, stayed in the batter’s box and was forced out for the
double play.Hillside had two more
hits that inning, but, with the bases cleared, no runs scored.
The Maroons advance
to the quarterfinals with the win.Their likely opponent will be FIPC, the # 1 seed from the American
League.The game will be on the field
