Despite numerous
chances to take control of the game, the Maroons dropped the season opener to
Westside, 11 to 9.The bats were a
weak point on the night. The team hit
below .500, the lead off spot scored no runs, and the Maroons only used one
of the available five homeruns on a short field (Scott’s solo shot in the
third)
The breaks went
against the Maroons, also.Twice,
innings were extended for Westside by iffy calls.Westside scored five runs combined after those calls were made.
Grego made his
comeback from shoulder surgery going 3 for 3 with a double, triple, and 3
RBI’s.He also pitched the entire
game, surrendering only one inconsequential walk.
The Maroons look to
throw water on Cox Electrical in what is sure to be a shocking game #2.
