The third time was the
charm.After two consecutive defeats
the Maroons (4-3) got the win they needed to clinch their first winning
season in team history.Hillside
managed to push eight runs across in the bottom of the first inning but the
Maroons settled down allowing only three more runs for the rest of the game.
As they have done all
season, Brett, Chris and Doug provided the bulk of the offense, but everyone
chipped in getting at least two hits apiece.With two early leads, the Maroons could afford to take some risks on
the bases.Aggressive base running
resulted in nine extra base hits on the night and eight runs scored from
second or first base.
The Maroons victory secured the 4th seed
in the Playoff tournament starting next Monday night.Crossroads won their game to move into
fifth place alone and will face the Maroons in the 9:30 game.This is a rematch of game 2 when the
Maroons won a defensive struggle 7 to 4.
The Maroons victory
also dictated the first and second playoff seeds.Had Hillside won, there would have been a three way tie for
first place with Messiah Lutheran getting the nod via the second tie
breaker.However, with only a two-way
tie, the tiebreaker is the regular season game.Jackson Dawson beat Messiah Lutheran 7 to 6 in game 4 and is the
regular season champion.
