A six run first
inning put the Maroons in a hole they could never quite dig themselves out of
in the YMCA’s championship game late Wednesday night.The Maroons put enough balls in play to
win the game racking up 13 runs.However, there were opportunities to do more damage.9 Maroon runners were left stranded during
the game.
The best chance to
even the game up came in the top of the sixth.Brett led off with a hustling infield hit followed by Weber’s
single and an RBI bloop double by Mike.With the tying runs on second and third and no outs, Tim hit a line
drive into left center.The Hillside
outfielder had a good break on the ball and made a nice running shoestring
catch.Mike, running on contact, was
doubled off easily.However, the home
plate umpire also called Weber out at third on the appeal even after
admitting that he didn’t see the entire play.
The controversial
triple play left the Maroons down two with only one more at bat.After a lead off single by Chris, the
Maroons went quietly to end the game and one of the most exciting seasons the
Maroons have played.
