Undefeated Rocky
Creek was stunned in the Semi-finals of the YMCA’s Monday Night League
tournament losing to the Maroons, 13 to 12.The two regular season matches featured good Maroon defense but hardly
any offense to match.On this night,
the Maroons were able put up more hits (20 vs. 11), runs (13 vs. 6), and
extra base hits (4 vs. 1) then they could the two previous games combined.
Offensively, the Maroons relied on an 8
run third inning sandwiched between a pair of two-run shots by Brett (in the
1st and 4th) to take a 12 to 11 lead going into the last inning.
Mike provided the
pivotal plays in both the top and bottom of that fifth and final inning.In the top of the fifth, he hit a clutch
two out triple scoring Weber from 1st base for an insurance run that turned
out to be the game winner.

Creek, then came up in the bottom of the fifth with the Maroons clutching to
their two run lead.The inning
started off ominously.A first pitch
laser to the right field gap put a runner on third with the tying run at the
plate and no outs.That next batter
hit a double, again to the right side of the field.When the throw from the outfield was mishandled, the Rocky
Creek runner took off for third.Mike
gathered up the loose ball and made an easy toss to Tim for the first out of
the inning.
Rocky Creek’s next
two batters hit line drive singles but, with the bases cleared, they did no
damage.A 6-5 fielder’s choice by Rob
and Tim and a can of corn to Doug sealed the deal for the Maroons.
The Maroons will
battle the third seed, Hillside Baptist, in the championship game.Hillside finished up their game with Life
Spring and then upset the number 2 seed, Crossroads Community, to advance to
the finals.
